Amalfi at Claudio’s has closed after just one week, with the operators announcing Wednesday that the Italian coastal-inspired pop-up has ended its brief run at the historic Greenport waterfront property.
The closure comes after a mixed reaction from readers on the North Fork Sun‘s Facebook page following the restaurant’s debut. While some welcomed the new concept and praised Amalfi’s Hampton Bays location, many longtime Claudio’s patrons questioned another major rebranding of the 150-year-old landmark. Others lamented what they see as a departure from the restaurant’s traditional identity, with some calling for a return to a simpler, more authentic Claudio’s experience. Several commenters also questioned whether the North Fork needed another Italian restaurant, while others expressed concern over what they described as a series of short-lived concepts at the iconic waterfront property.
In a statement provided to the North Fork Sun, representatives for Amalfi said the restaurant’s “holiday pop-up run at Claudio’s is wrapping up for the season.”
The statement said there had been discussions about keeping the restaurant open through the summer and potentially beyond, but Amalfi owner Sal Biundo and Claudio’s ownership ultimately decided to limit the engagement to a short-term engagement.
“While there was potential for the concept to continue at Claudio’s Marina through the season and beyond, Sal Biundo and Claudio’s ownership ultimately decided it was best to keep this engagement to a short run,” the statement said.
Claudio’s has hosted several restaurant concepts in recent years, and ownership has now decided to use the waterfront space for private events and catering.
“The team has decided that the best next step is to put this incredible space to use for events and catering,” the statement said.
Amalfi, based in Hampton Bays, opened at Claudio’s just last week, bringing an Italian coastal-inspired menu featuring seafood, pizza, pasta and Mediterranean-inspired dishes to Greenport.
No reason beyond the joint business decision was provided for the restaurant’s early departure.

They ruined a good thing. Bring back old Claudios. We need our old affordable basic seafood restaurant back.
Wow! Our voices have been heard! Why they didn’t just leave the ICONIC restaurant alone. People would have come.
