Peconic Landing President and CEO Robert J. Syron has been awarded the 2026 Lawrence E. Larson Memorial Award of Honor, the highest recognition presented by LeadingAge New York, a statewide association representing more than 600 nonprofit and mission-driven providers and 150,000 professionals in aging services.

The award was presented May 19 during LeadingAge New York’s annual conference and awards ceremony. Named for the organization’s first chairman, the Lawrence E. Larson Memorial Award of Honor recognizes individuals who have demonstrated distinguished service, humanitarian achievement, professional vision and lasting contributions to the field of aging services at both the state and national levels.

It’s been a big year for Syron, who in February was named one of the top five wellness executives in North America.

Syron, who has more than 35 years of experience in aging services and has led Peconic Landing since 2003, was recognized for helping transform the Greenport-based life plan community into one of the nation’s leading senior living organizations.

“Bob embodies the spirit of service and partnership that defines the Lawrence E. Larson Award,” LeadingAge New York President and CEO Sebrina Barrett said in a statement. “His vision, his steadiness, and his deep respect for the people he serves have elevated Peconic Landing and inspired leaders throughout our field.”

Under Syron’s leadership, Peconic Landing has expanded its continuum of care with the addition of Short-Term Rehabilitation and Memory Support programs, launched the Center for Well-Being in partnership with Stony Brook Medicine, and earned national recognition for wellness and healthcare excellence. The organization has also deepened its engagement with communities across the East End.

Peconic Landing Board of Trustees Chair Eileen T. McGuire praised Syron’s impact on the organization and its residents.

“In the past 23 years, Bob’s leadership has transformed Peconic Landing and enriched the lives of countless individuals,” McGuire said in a statement. “When I think about what sets Peconic Landing apart — the sense of community, the genuine care people show for one another, the commitment to excellence — so much of that is reflected in who Bob is.”

Beyond his work at Peconic Landing, Syron has been an advocate for aging services throughout New York and a mentor to future leaders in the profession. Since arriving at Peconic Landing, he has personally mentored 33 interns pursuing careers in aging services, with two additional interns joining the organization this year.

“I am deeply honored to accept this award,” Syron said during the ceremony. “To be recognized by an organization that represents so many dedicated professionals is truly meaningful to me. Any success associated with my name is really the result of extraordinary teams and communities working together on behalf of our mission.”

Syron was also recognized among the Top 5 Wellness Executives in senior living communities across North America through the 2025 ICAA NuStep Pinnacle Awards. He is a past recipient of LeadingAge New York’s James W. Sanderson Memorial Award for Leadership in Long-Term Care and holds degrees in Health Science and Public Administration and Healthcare Management, as well as the Certified Aging Services Professional credential.
