Southold Town’s Laserfiche records portal has been restored and is once again accessible to the public, marking a significant milestone in the town’s recovery from the ransomware attack that crippled municipal computer systems late last year.

Officials in the Town Clerk’s office confirmed on Monday afternoon that the online document management system is back online. The platform allows residents, attorneys, title companies, real estate professionals and others to access a wide range of public records and government documents remotely.

The system was taken offline following the cyberattack discovered in November 2025, which disrupted town operations and prompted a broad investigation involving the FBI, Homeland Security, Suffolk County authorities and New York State cybersecurity officials. Town employees were forced to rely on manual, paper-based processes as officials worked to contain the breach and restore services.

At the time, Town Supervisor Al Krupski said Southold did not intend to pay any ransom demand and instead focused on restoring systems and strengthening cybersecurity protections. The attack mirrored a growing trend of ransomware incidents targeting local governments across the country.

The portal can be accessed through the Town Records section of Southold Town’s website.
