Greenport’s ‘Dances in the Park’ was made for summer nights like this. Under clear summer skies and a gentle evening breeze off the harbor, Mitchell Park was packed Monday night as the village’s long-running concert series brought another picture-perfect night of music to the village waterfront. The lawn filled early with folding chairs, picnic blankets and families staking out spots before the music began. Young children danced barefoot near the stage while parents swayed along from lawn chairs. Couples tapped their feet and friends relaxed on the grass, creating the kind of easygoing, multigenerational atmosphere that has made the free Monday night concerts a summertime tradition in Greenport.

Providing the soundtrack for the evening was The Seismatics, a six-piece East End rock band known for its energetic live performances and crowd-pleasing mix of classic and modern rock. Fronted by lead singer Michael Schmidt, the band delivered a steady stream of familiar favorites spanning decades, with songs by artists including David Bowie, Aerosmith, The Cure, Tom Petty and The Beatles. Their upbeat set kept the crowd engaged from start to finish, drawing dancers to the area in front of the stage and singalongs from audience members spread across the park.

The weekly concert series continues to be one of Greenport’s most popular summer traditions, drawing a cross-section of the community to Mitchell Park for free live music. Monday’s performance by The Seismatics once again filled the waterfront lawn with residents and visitors enjoying an evening of rock music in the heart of the village.
