A retired Southampton police officer from Jamesport fatally shot his wife before turning the gun on himself in what authorities described as a murder-suicide, according to Suffolk County police.
Riverhead police officers responded to the home of Edward Crohan, 62, and his wife, Stephanie Crohan, 63 at 56 Lagoon Court in Jamesport for a welfare check on Wednesday evening around 8:30 p.m. and discovered the bodies.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392.
Edward Crohan served as a Southampton Town police officer for nearly a quarter century, from 1984 to 2008, according to his LinkedIn profile. His wife Stephanie was the daughter of a Suffolk County police sergeant who served in the 1960s and died in 2023, according to a published obituary.
A next door neighbor on the quiet cul de sac that runs north off Peconic Bay Blvd. confirmed the Crohans were her neighbors, but declined to comment.
