A free weekend of Afro-Brazilian drumming, live music, dance and a cultural marketplace is coming to Mitchell Park in Greenport Sept. 12 and 13 as part of the 2026 Energía Internacional program.

The weekend begins Saturday, Sept. 12, with El Mercado de la Creatividad, held in collaboration with the Greenport Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The market will feature farmers, artisans and other vendors selling food, crafts, art and natural products, along with pop-up performances by local musicians.

On Sunday, Sept. 13, Batalá New York will lead a free Afro-Brazilian percussion workshop for families from 4 to 5 p.m. at Mitchell Park. The workshop will be followed from 5 to 6 p.m. by a performance featuring Batalá New York and Sanctuario, an Afro-Latin music and dance ensemble led by Mónica Ortiz Rossi.

Batalá New York is an all-women percussion ensemble specializing in Afro-Brazilian music and dance, particularly samba-reggae, a style incorporating elements of Brazilian samba and Caribbean reggae.

Energía Internacional is a three-day celebration of the cultures represented on the North Fork, with programming centered on music, art, fashion, food and other cultural traditions.

Admission to the Mitchell Park events is free.
