The sounds of sea shanties, folk songs and patriotic anthems will fill the air at Horton Point Lighthouse in Southold on Sunday, Oct. 25, when the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Cadet Chorale performs a free outdoor concert overlooking Long Island Sound.

The concert, presented by Southold Historical Museum, begins at 1:00 p.m. at the historic lighthouse, 3575 Lighthouse Road.

The chorale, a select group of singers drawn from the Coast Guard Academy’s corps of cadets in New London, Conn., will travel across Long Island Sound for the performance, which will feature anthems, folk songs, memorial music and traditional sea shanties.

The ensemble performs throughout the country, including appearances in New York City, Boston, Chicago and Washington, D.C., as well as at historic sites along the East Coast. Its international tours have included England, Italy, Ireland and Germany.

Although members of the chorale are accomplished musicians, they are also pursuing degrees in engineering and other professional fields. Upon graduation, they receive commissions as ensigns in the U.S. Coast Guard.

The academy’s music program includes several vocal and instrumental ensembles and an annual musical theater production, providing cadets with opportunities to develop leadership skills alongside their academic and military training.

The concert is made possible through support from Suffolk County 250th, an initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Admission is free. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and dress for the weather.
