It was not immediately clear, based on the police report, whether fowl play is suspected. Four days later, the owner contacted police again, saying he had found eight of his chickens deceased in the last two months, but that this incident was the first in which there appeared to forced entry into the chicken coop. He told police there were security cameras that could have caught the perpetrator or perpetrators in the act, but that he has since installed surveillance equipment. Police spoke to all the neighbors surrounding the area, according to a police report, and “none of them reported anyone wishing harm upon [the man’s] chickens.”

They also observed property along the water’s edge, where grass and shrubs were cut down “to the stump.” The contractor told police he had been hired by the homeowner to cut down the trees and lay the topsoil, but that his crew was not responsible for the work done at the water’s edge. He was advised to cease all work on the property until the proper permits are obtained.

Nothing was reporting missing.
