Three people, including a 5-year-old child, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries Wednesday afternoon after a school bus and a passenger vehicle collided in Southold, according to Southold Town police.

Police and the Southold Fire Department responded to the intersection of Main Road and Main Bayview Road at approximately 3:20 p.m. Sept. 9.

Both drivers — identified by police as Mark Bennett, 61, of Amagansett, and Preston Maucere, 25, of Deer Park — and a 5-year-old passenger on the school bus were transported by the Southold and Cutchogue fire departments to Eastern Long Island Hospital for evaluation of minor injuries.

Six other passengers on the bus were evaluated by emergency medical personnel at the scene and were not injured, police said.

It was not immediately clear which driver was operating the bus or where the bus was traveling from or what its destination was. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to police.
