From a drifting dock piling in Mattituck to a driver allegedly racing through Greenport’s school zone before being apprehended hiding on an East Marion beach, this week’s Southold Town Police blotter features the mundane, the messy and the mildly mysterious. Officers also fielded reports of a late-night chase among young men in Greenport, a unlocked car entered overnight and a briefcase stolen, a neighbor dispute tied to a proposed chicken farm — and an unusual harassment complaint involving something unpleasant left on a pair of car door handles.
March 9 – Around 9:30 a.m., a 60-year-old man with no known address contacted police to report that a Greenport man, 45, was yelling and cursing at him outside of a shop on Front St. in Greenport. He told police he knows the owner of a local restaurant, who had asked him to tell people not to loiter in front of the restaurant. Both parties were advised to cease contact with each other.
Around 10:30 a.m., a Mattituck man, 19, contacted police to report that a piling had broken free from a dock near the Old Mill Inn in Mattituck, and was floating towards where his boat is docked. The piling was brought to the DEC ramp and removed by the town’s highway department, according to a report.
March 10 – Around 1 a.m., a Greenport teenager reported to police that a group of men were chasing him near Third St. Responding officers were initially unable to locate the men, but located the complainant behind Townsend Manor. The teen was “agitated” and claimed that a trio of local men aged 18 to 20 had come to his home, threatened to beat him up, and had guns. The complainant “gave a few versions of the above story and each time added or removed a detail,” according to a police report, which noted the teen was “aggressive” and “uncooperative” with police. An officer was interviewing the teen when the three men in question drove down Webb St. before running away from the vehicle. All three were located on Johnson Court and detained for questioning. Two of the men claimed the complainant was the aggressor. A police report noted that “no weapons were located, [and] no information was present to lead the undersigned to believe weapons were involved.” All parties were advised to avoid contact with each other. The next morning, one of the three men interviewed by police contacted authorities to report damage to a trailer on Johnson Court from what he said was a bb gun. He suspects that the teen from the incident the night before was responsible. An investigation is ongoing, according to police.
March 11 – Michael Zervos, 59, of Greenport West, was arrested around 9:30 a.m. after allegedly speeding more than 60 mph through the 15 mph Greenport school zone and then allegedly trying to evade a pursuing police car with its lights and sirens on, according to a police report. The vehicle was ultimately abandoned near Maple Lane in East Marion, and police found Zervos “hiding on the beach” behind a residence, and allegedly “verbally admitted to fleeing from STPD units. The car was impounded and Zervos was transported to headquarters for processing, according to a report.
Around 11 a.m., a Greenport resident on Bay Ave. reported that overnight, someone had gone into his unlocked car and removed a briefcase containing two iPads. No surveillance footage was available, according to a police report, but an investigation is ongoing.
Around noon, a vehicle being driven by Victor Puluc-Sinay, 31, of Southold was stopped and the driver ticketed for allegedly driving with a suspended registration and no insurance, according to a police report.
Just before midnight, Oscar Escobarramos, 30, of Greenport West was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated, according to a police report, following an alleged traffic infraction on Main St. in Greenport. Escobarramos’ vehicle was pulled over, and the driver allegedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests, the report said.
March 12 – Around noon, a Southold man, 21, who is proposing to build a 16-acre chicken farm on Ackerly Pond Lane in Southold, arrived a police headquarters to file a notice of trespass against a neighbor, a 59-year-old Southold woman. The complainant claimed the woman repeatedly came on to his property without his permission, according to a police report. The report notes that the woman admitted to going on to the property, and agreed to stay away, but told police she was upset that the complainant was clearing a wooded area behind her property, near the property line. No further action was taken, according to the report.
March 13 – Around 1 p.m., Aaron Conner, 26, of Coram, was arrested on an outstanding Suffolk County Probations office bench warrant, according to a police report.
Around 1:30 p.m., a 21-year-old Cutchogue woman reported alleged harassment. She told authorities that while her car was parked on Brecknock Road in Greenport West on March 6, someone placed “what appeared to be feces on both door handles” on the driver’s side of the vehicle. She told authorities she suspected her ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend, a 23-year-old Southold woman, whom she said had been harassing her via text and on social media. Police were unsuccessful in their attempts to locate surveillance footage of the incident, as the vehicle in question was parked out of view of nearby cameras, according to a police report. Multiple efforts to follow up with the complainant, according to the report, were also unsuccessful.
March 14 – Around 9 a.m., a 23-year-old reported a possible domestic dispute at a location on North Road in Greenport West. A responding officer was greeted by a 30-year-old female at the residence, who stated “I’m not doing this,” and slammed the door in the officer’s face.
Around 9 a.m. a patrol officer pulled over a car on Middle Road in Mattituck that had a suspended registration for no insurance, according to a police report. Driver Adrian Mayers, 39, of Queens Village, was found to have a revoked driver’s license, and issued multiple traffic tickets. The car was impounded and the license plates were seized, according to the report.
Around 10 a.m., Roelmer Adrianolopez, 53, of Southold, was pulled over on Middle Road in Peconic for failure to have valid insurance, according to a police report, and issued multiple traffic tickets. The car was towed and the license plates seized.
Around 8 p.m., police received an anonymous report of shots fired near Haywaters Road and Vanston Road in Cutchogue. Responding officers canvassed the area without locating the source of the alleged gunshots, according to a report.
March 15 – Around 6 p.m., Jalen Shelby, 32, of Greenport was arrested on an outstanding bench warrant, after being pulled over on Sound Ave. in Mattituck, according to a police report. An officer on routine patrol recognized Shelby driving by and knew there was an arrest warrant outstanding. After pulling the vehicle over, Shelby was arrested and transported to police headquarters, the report said.
